The Case for Comparing Two at a Time

A ranking answers "which is best overall." A comparison answers a narrower, often more useful question: "which of these two specific builders should I pick." Both have their place, and this page exists for the second question.

Why Two, Not a Ranked List

Once you're down to two real finalists — usually because they scored close together, or because both keep coming up in your own searches — a side-by-side page puts their scores, template strength, and pricing next to each other instead of asking you to hold two separate reviews in your head.

The Same Criteria, Just Arranged Differently

Every comparison uses the identical formula as our main rating — templates & design, ease of use, SEO tools, price & support — plus a couple of practical extras like eCommerce depth. We don't invent comparison-specific criteria, since that would make a head-to-head result contradict how the same two builders are scored individually elsewhere.

When a Close Score Still Hides a Real Winner

Two builders half a point apart overall can differ sharply on one thing that matters enormously to your specific project — eCommerce depth, or how much real SEO control you get. An overall ranking averages that gap away; a comparison page exists specifically to surface it.

How Pairs Get Chosen

We prioritize matchups people actually search for — similarly-priced builders aimed at the same use case, or a well-known free option against a well-known paid one. Missing a pairing you want? Our Contact page is the place to ask for it.

Comparisons Update Themselves

Because a comparison pulls its numbers directly from each builder's individual review, it updates automatically the moment either review is revisited. You'll never see stale pricing here that's already been corrected in the underlying review.

When There's Genuinely No Winner

Some comparisons end in a real tie, and we say so rather than manufacturing a tiebreaker. If two builders trade wins across every criterion with no clear pattern, your own specific priority should decide it — we try to make that trade-off explicit instead of forcing a conclusion for the sake of tidiness.

Reading the Feature Table Efficiently

Scan it, don't read it top to bottom. If you already know the one or two rows that matter most to your decision, jump straight there — a builder that loses most of a ten-row table can still be the right pick if it wins the two rows you actually care about.

Why We Cap Comparisons at Two Builders

A three-way table tends to bury the row that actually matters to your decision under too many columns competing for attention, especially once you add pricing and feature rows on top of the four core scores. If you're genuinely weighing three options, we've found reading two separate two-way comparisons — your leading choice against each alternative — gets you a clearer answer than one crowded table trying to do everything at once.

What to Do If a Comparison Looks Out of Date

Because pricing and features move faster in this category than our scheduled re-tests can always catch immediately, a comparison page can occasionally lag a very recent change on one platform. If the numbers here look inconsistent with what you're seeing on a builder's own current pricing page, that's worth flagging through our Contact page — it usually means a fast-moving change slipped past our last update rather than an error in how the comparison itself is built.

Comparisons Aren't a Shortcut Past the Full Reviews

A comparison page is deliberately compact, built for a fast decision between two specific finalists rather than a replacement for either builder's complete review. If a comparison leaves you genuinely undecided, that's usually a real signal it's worth reading both underlying reviews in full — the compact format necessarily leaves out nuance a dedicated review has the space to explain properly.
